About
A Chinese name should be explainable.
iWeiba is a free Chinese name finder for people who want a name that sounds like them, means something, and works in real conversations.
Why we built it
Most Chinese name generators give you characters first and explanations second. That is backwards. A name is something you have to say, write, explain, and carry into rooms where you may be the only foreigner. The meaning matters, but so does the sound, the tone, the gender impression, and the joke you did not intend.
iWeiba starts with a curated corpus of names and characters. We check the sound and the meaning, link classical names to their sources, and say clearly when a name is editorial rather than attested. We do not invent a destiny, a score, or a lucky number.
How we choose names
Results come from three routes: sound-based (close to your English name), meaning-based (characters that express a feeling you chose), and attested (a name with a documented source). Each result is filtered for common homophones, celebrity collisions, rare characters, and awkward tone patterns. The Finder uses your English first name and preferences; the Checker reads an existing Chinese name.
Our data is small on purpose. We would rather have a few hundred names we can explain than a million combinations we cannot. The library will grow, and every page will keep its sources visible.
What we do not do
- We do not register names, issue official documents, or provide legal or immigration advice.
- We do not promise luck, wealth, or a change in destiny.
- We do not sell your name, ask for an email, or require an account.
- We do not claim to be a complete dictionary or an exhaustive celebrity check.
The name
“Weiba” is a playful reading of the domain. The brand story nods to Babel — the old image of language as a wall — and to the small tail that follows you when you try something new. The point is not the mascot. The point is the bridge: a name that helps you cross into a conversation.
