Character by character
Why it works
安歌 comes from the Chu Ci poem 东皇太一: 疏缓节兮安歌 — “the rhythm slows, and the song is peaceful.” 安 means peace or calm; 歌 means song. The name is musical and composed, with a ritual atmosphere rather than a purely domestic one.
It is unisex and slightly feminine. 安 is also a common surname, so a full name such as 安歌 can be parsed either as a two-character given name or as surname An plus given Ge. That ambiguity is usually harmless, but it is worth explaining when you introduce yourself. The name is calm, easy to pronounce, and works well with a simple surname.
Imagery
“安”是安稳与快乐,“歌”是歌唱。寓意在安宁祥和的心境下,尽情吟唱生活的旋律与快乐。
Singing with contentment, finding joy in a peaceful, harmonious melody.
Sound
The pinyin is Ān Gē. Say it slowly, then at normal speed. If a tone feels difficult, practice the syllable alone before putting the full name together. A Chinese speaker will usually understand an imperfect tone in context, but the closer you get, the more natural the name feels.
How to introduce it
“My Chinese name is 安歌. 安 — peace, safety; 歌 — song.”
A common full-name pattern would be 李安歌 (Lǐ Ān Gē), using the surname 李. You can also use no surname at all.
